Frequently Asked Questions

Almost ready to roll, but have a few questions? Get informed below, and if you don't see what you're looking for, feel free to shoot us an email.

Do I need any special baking equipment?

Nothing special, all we ask of you is a flat work-surface (smooth countertop or table) large enough to accommodate all participants and a working oven (reaches 500°F).

If you have some standard equipment, like large bowls and containers, or even a dutch oven, let us know! We will bring all the necessary tools and ingredients, but if you are able to use your own tools, the more comfortable you will be in making bread. For more info on basic baking tools, see our Resources post.

Will you offer different kinds of lessons?

At the moment, we are only offering sourdough lessons. If you are looking for sources of inspiration or guidance on other types of bread, please see our Resources.

I have dietary restrictions, is that okay?

Let us know when you book! We can accommodate vegan and vegetarian diets during the snack break, however we advise against booking a session if you, or someone you live with, has wheat sensitivities, gluten sensitivities, or Celiac's. By nature, we also cannot offer any keto or paleo options.

Where can I buy materials for class?

We've pulled together a handy list for all the materials you need and where to find them. Remember to shop locally!

What happens in those 5 hours?

The class immediately begins with mixing to take advantage of as much proofing time as possible. After this, the class will go over bread basics such as mixing, kneading, proofing, and baking.

Who will run these sessions?

My name is Nicole, and I will be providing these lessons. My training comes professionally from The Merchant LB where I was taught the ins and outs of bread under the guidance of the head baker. Since leaving, I've learned how to make my own bread at home

What if I can't make my session?

No worries! Give us at least 48 hour notice if you are unable to make your session, and we can reschedule for a different date or issue a deposit refund. If you cancel without a 48 hour notice, you will be forfeiting your refund.

Will you provide materials we can keep after the session is over?

Definitely. We will provide you with a set of materials including a resource list, a recipe sheet, a banneton for each person, scoring blades, and a piece of your own starter.

How much bread will be made?

During our session, one loaf will be baked as part of the demo, which will then be shared! At the end of the session, each person will have created one loaf they can bake themselves at a later time.

Are we only making sourdough?

At the moment we will only offer sourdough to encourage learning and retention. Bread making is a simple process, but requires a lot of skill and time to master. By starting out simple, we can focus on the nuances involved in bread making. Once you master the basics, you can move on to other recipes!
